“Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the lowly,… Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life;… The LORD will fulfil his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures for ever, do not abandon the works of your hands. “Psalm 138:6-9. Things don’t always go the way we want them to go. And sometimes we don’t understand God and why He doesn’t intervene, since nothing is impossible for Him. What has always been green and fresh all year long in Dinangat is now yellow and brown. Small harmless fires go out of control and suddenly become huge fires across the mountains destroying gardens, bamboo and grass which the Dinangat people dearly need for food and building houses. Some can water their gardens with bamboo water pipes but some aren’t able to because of the location of their gardens. Ralf and Elli’s small hydro system which provides enough power for their computers, lights and fridges is producing very little power at the moment, making it very difficult to function. Every day they pray, “Lord, please give us rain!”
The Lord is on high, He is sovereign over everything. The Dinangat believers are certain of that. Whenever Ralf and Elli talk about the weather, which is pretty much daily, they encourage each other with words like in Psalm 138… "The Lord is on high, He knows what we need, He is good and will not forget about us! Every day we will have exactly what we need!”
Ralf and Elli just spent three wonderful weeks together with their older girls Naomi and Rebekka because they were on school break. They will get to see them again over the Christmas break. It is hard for Ralf and Elli to let go of them again and again. But they know that even though sometimes things are hard they can trust in Him! Because Ralf and Elli know that He is above everything and He is good, so they can be calm in the midst of hard things in their lives.
