*Dates: 26th June - 19th July 2017
*Dates include two days of orientation at North Cotes - 26th and 27th June
**Subject to flight costs and availability.
Volunteers must be over 18 years of age and in reasonably good health with a desire to work with the other team members to see the project completed.
The project will be in a village on the border of Liberia and Ivory Coast among the Glaro people. Two families moved into this village in 2011. They have been learning the language and culture of the Glaro people and are presently doing literacy classes with the people. Our project will be to work on a water tower and do some house repairs for the missionaries. There will be lots of skilled and unskilled work. A willingness to work is all that is required.
We will fly from Manchester to Monrovia, Liberia. After a night in a guest house in Monrovia we will take a 1½ hour flight inland to an airstrip. The last stretch to the village will be by suburban utility vehicle (SUV) truck or a motorbike taxi.
In the capital Monrovia: Guesthouse with running water and electricity, possibly on the beach. Basic but clean.
In the village: Accommodation will be primitive. Two rooms will be available for the team so the girls will have one room and the boys another room. There is one bathroom for all with bucket showers and no running water.
You need to have a valid passport with more than six months left before it expires. A visa is required which we will give you advice on purchasing once you have been accepted on the team. A visa costs approximately £60.
We will be working in hot humid conditions so you need to be in good health to cope with this. A medical form is part of our application process.
It is required that you visit your doctor or travel nurse at least three months before you go on the trip to make sure you have the vaccinations they recommend for that area. These vaccinations are not covered in the cost of the trip.
Initial £200 deposit when you apply. The remaining monies for the trip will be required to be paid to NTM in three payments 1st February, 1st March and 1st April.
The costs include £200 non returnable application fee; flights, all on field travel; all meals in Liberia and at orientation; accommodation; travel and tour operator insurance.
£100 of the cost is given as a contribution to the project.
The cost does not cover personal spending money, the cost of vaccinations, visa, minor medical costs, or any insurance excesses. It does not cover your travel to and from orientation at our headquarters at North Cotes or to the international airport we depart from.
Team size - ten people.
Closing date for application 31st March 2017.
Orientation is included in the dates of the trip. You will need to make your way to North Cotes on the 25th June so you can be in orientation class on the 26th. Orientation is an important requirement of going with us on a vision team so all members are required to attend.
