After returning home from a visit to Brazil, Jeffrey was busy with his farewell service, the Acre January Conference, and then preparing to leave for Portugal. He made the trip to Portugal in late January of this year and then travelled to Coimbra to be settle in before starting his studies at the University.
Jeffrey took a four month beginners level course in Portuguese. It was an intensive course, but overall he really enjoyed the classes and learned a lot more about the language. There is however a lot more to learn!
He was very blessed to have met some lovely Christian people in Coimbra, and it was a privilege for him to help in the Grupo Biblico Universitaìrio (GBU). This is a Christian organisation aimed at reaching the university students with the Gospel, and a place for fellowship for Christian students at the university. The couple that oversee the work there are originally from England. They were a great help and encouragement to Jeffrey and they would value your prayers as they continue to serve the Lord in Coimbra.
After finishing the language course at the end of May, Jeffrey then moved to Santo Andre to begin working alongside another couple. He was very grateful to them for opening their home to him and allowing him to stay with them for a few weeks until he could find accommodation. He has now been able to rent an apartment in the town, and hopes to move in very soon. He has also been able to purchase a car, which allows him to come and go as necessary.
The old church building has now been converted into accommodation to be used for teams when they visit, and potentially for youth weekends and camps in the future. When Jeffrey arrived to Santo Andre, it was time to do the painting, so they got to work and re-painted the whole of the inside of the premises. They trust and pray this building will be of great benefit in the days to come in reaching the youth of the Alentejo area.
Camps are about to begin in the Algarve, and so Jefferey will help the team there. They are looking forward to a great few weeks with the youth of the Algarve and request prayer that all would go well, and for many young people to be reached with the Gospel during these camps.
