2000: The first term of the Cross-Cultural Communications course began in September, thus allowing for the full missionary training programme to be completed in England.
In 1993 three New Tribes missionary men in Colombia were taken hostage and even after several years no indication of their whereabouts has been revealed. In 1995 another two missionaries in Panama were taken hostage, however these two men were killed.
After the death of the first five NTM missionaries in Bolivia, Paul Fleming was asked, ‘What will you do now?’ Part of his reply was that God is not dependent on any organisation to complete His purposes. He uses individuals. New Tribes Mission is simply a channel through which a group of individuals may work. We know that His work will not fail and we desire simply to get on with His programme.
The message is still the same, ”Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel” Mark 16:15.
New Tribes Mission continues to trust God, and God continues to be glorified. Today more than 3,000 missionaries serve throughout the world, and training programs in more than a dozen countries prepare missionaries for service among the thousands of tribes who have yet to hear.
We thank God for the rich heritage passed on to us by a small group of people who decided, in Paul Fleming's words, "New Tribes Mission's efforts shall be directed ... where no witness of the Gospel has yet reached."
